Tree/Shrub Pruning

Tree Pruning encourages healthy growth, reduces hazards, and improves aesthetic appeal.

Pruning/Trimming can be done for several reasons:

  • Removal of deadwood
  • Removal of hazardous branches
  • Shaping and thinning for light and wind
  • Filtration or raising of the lower branches

Shrub pruning promotes a natural look to shrubscapes, extends shrub life and reduces maintenance frequency.

All shrub pruning is done by hand

Tree Removal

A last resort, with our experience and techniques, we can remove any tree safely.

Removals can be done for several reasons:

  • Often trees out grow the area they are planted in and become too large
  • Storm damaged trees
  • Dead, dying, and diseased trees
  • Trees with cracks in the trunk or crotch
Tree Planting

We are now planting trees! We plant 10, 15, 20, 25 gallon container trees. Planting prices include the tree, mulch, and staking if required. Give us a call for some ideas on great trees to plant in Manitoba.

Stump Grinding

Stump grinding is done to remove the last bit of the stump. Otherwise the stump is cut as close to the ground as possible (usually within 2 inches). Stumps are ground 6-10 inches below the ground.  With the stump removed and some top soil applied grass can now be grown where the stump used to be.

Treatment & Tree Care

Tree Fertilizing

Trees that are not doing well can sometimes be helped along by fertilizing.  We use a slow release liquid fertilizer that is applied with a deep root injector needle.  Fertilizing can be done in the spring or fall.

Emerald Ash Borer Treatment

Emerald Ash Borer has arrived in Winnipeg.  We will be using Treeazin injections to save ash trees. Treatments take place in early summer and last for two years. Timberland Tree Service can work with home owner’s and property managers to come up with a management plan including, treatments, removals, and replacement of ash trees.

Cancer Worm Spraying

Canker worms can be a big nuisance in Winnipeg come May and June. They can cause damage to your trees by partially or totally defoliating the tree. Timberland Tree Service uses only eco-friendly BTK spray to control canker worms. We use a high pressure spray equipment set up to reach the tops of the trees.

Dutch Elm Treatment

Timberland Tree service uses one application of Arbotect 20-S to protect the entire tree for up to three years yielding significant cost savings. The most common method of transmission of DED is on the bodies of elm bark beetles that feed on two- to four-year-old branches. There are multiple generations of elm bark beetles per year. Thousands of beetles may hatch from a single tree.

To ensure even distribution, Arbotect 20-S is injected using the Macro-Infusion injection method. Macro-Infusion injects a large volume of solution into the root flares of the tree. This solution is then transported throughout the canopy providing a protective fungicide barrier.

Only Arbotect 20-S has the ability to move into the newly formed sapwood, while resisting degradation resulting from cold, heat, and other adverse conditions.

Arbotect 20-S was first registered over 30 years ago and has a proven 99% success rate when applied as per manufacturer’s directions.

Cabling & Bracing

Trees with co-dominant stems may require the installation of a cable to help preserve the structure of the tree and to help prevent the stems from separating. Dynamic rope cables allow the tree to continue to grow, while providing low oscillation in the wind to help prevent branch breakage.

Braces are installed when there is a crack present between the two stems, a large drill is used to bore through the tree and a threaded rod is installed to brace the crack.

When possible we like to structurally prune one or both of the co-dominant stems.
